Double Demerits Campaign

Double Demerits

October 8th, 2014

The NSW Centre for Road Safety, in conjunction with NSW Police, has developed a new ‘Double Demerits - Think Twice' road safety campaign to raise awareness of double demerit periods and help encourage positive changes in driver behaviour.

The demerit point system provides an incentive for drivers to improve their driving behaviour, obey road rules and comply with NSW traffic laws. This awareness campaign is coordinated with traditional enforcement methods and heightened police presence.

According to the Minister for Police and Emergency Services Stuart Ayres "We’re urging drivers and riders to take extra care and be aware of risky road behaviour that attracts increased penalties such as speeding and not wearing seatbelts and helmets."

The campaign uses a mix of television, online television, digital display, radio and outdoor to remind all NSW drivers to obey road laws.

The campaign will run leading up to, and during, holiday periods in NSW from October 2014.
