A new campaign encouraging problem gamblers to seek help to kick their habit has been launched by the NSW Government.

As an Australian National University study shows, while the general public has some sympathy for people with drug and alcohol addictions, they tend to be much less sympathetic to problem gamblers, blaming them for creating the problem themselves. The fear of someone discovering their problem and branding them with negative judgments keeps a large proportion of problem gamblers firmly ‘in the closet’.

The Responsible Gambling Fund and the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming & Racing, You’re Stronger Than You Think campaign speaks in a positive, motivational way to problem gamblers. It acts to remind them that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

The campaign will run from now until the end of December and then resume from April through to the end of May 2015 on online television, radio, targeted online display, SEM and in-venue based ATMs throughout NSW.
