nsw.gov.au domain names

NSW Government entities and local councils can use nsw.gov.au domain names to identify their agency, organisation or program online. nsw.gov.au domain names are registered, renewed and updated by domain name account holders (account holder) in NSW Government entities and local councils.

The Netregistry self-service portal has been decommissioned.

Netregistry portal account holders, registrants and tech contacts have received information about the changes to processes that will take effect in February 2018. If you require further information, please email domainadmin@dpc.nsw.gov.au.

Outstanding Netregistry invoices

Registrants are still required to pay outstanding invoices issued by Netregistry.

Email domainadmin@dpc.nsw.gov.au to request a copy of an outstanding invoice.

Note that as the Netregistry portal has been decommissioned, electronic funds transfer is the only payment option now available. You will not be able to pay by credit card online or over the phone. The Netregistry call centre does not have access to process payments for nsw.gov.au domains.

Register a new domain

1. Check if a domain name is available.
2. Apply for a .nsw.gov.au domain on the Domain Name website.

Your application is then forwarded to DPC Communications & Engagement to check it complies with national Domain Policies and Guidelines.

Until February 2019, the Australian Government Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) will bear the cost of new nsw.gov.au domain name registrations. 

Manage your domains

Once the domain name is registered, registrants are responsible for maintaining registry records. Changes can be requested on the Domain Name website and are managed by the DTA’s Domain Name Administration support team.

Who can register nsw.gov.au domain names?

nsw.gov.au is a “closed” domain space, available for use by NSW Government and local council organisations within NSW only.

A registrant (or domain owner) must be:

  • an organisation established by an Act of Parliament or government-only regulation as a government department or agency
  • a local government entity
  • a statutory authority
  • other defined government body.
